Swaby Parish Council consists of 11 councillors covering Swaby, South Thoresby and Haugh, with 7 seats for Swaby, 3 for South Thoresby and 1 for Haugh.
The Parish Council meets approx every 6 weeks at the Village Hall in Swaby. It owns the local parish gardens (currently let) together with several seats and benches throughout the area. In normal years the Parish Council organises an annual litter pick through the villages and along the roads. Part of its statutory function is to act as local consultee on planning applications and liaise with other authorities on behalf of its residents on matters such as street ights, road repairs, road safety and policing.
One of the Parish Council's greatest achievements in the past five years was to have the speed limit reduced along the stretch of the A16 and into Swaby itself, and the Council also provided static speed limits signs for South Thoresby. More recently the Parish Council, through donations and grant funding, arranged the purchase and installation of a defibrillator at the Village Hall, organised training sessions and is currerntly (2024) looking at setting up a one number call system for local residents to access help with the defibrillator.
